Research and Reading

Reading times
Class Book: 3 hours, 30 minutes, 45 minutes
detailed outline: 2 hours

It was difficult for me to find a topic I enjoyed. But Mrs. Harper suggested foot binding and Geisha to me. I knew more about Geisha because my mom lived in Japan so she has dolls from her childhood she handed down to me when I was younger. I figured it could be a cool topic to research on. It is exciting learning more about the little dolls I played with when I was younger but it is very difficult finding information on my topic. The life these women live is completely by choice. It is a long road to becoming a Geisha.

For my National History Day Topic I have decided to study the topic of Geisha Women. While researching I have learned new information about Geisha. It is a hidden world that these women decide to become apart of. These girls go through months of training to become a Maiko and once they have been that for 5 years then determines whether or not you have become a Geisha. This world that they become apart of is quit secretive and serious about following rules. Geisha have many responsibilities and rules that if broken could ruin there training.

Research Topic: Geisha

When I first chose a topic i hated it. I changed my topic multiple times. But Mrs. Harper finally had a great idea and that would be do research Geisha. I never even knew Geisha were real people before I started my research. This topic is very broad so it took a while to come to one strong research topic which is, The rights geisha woman have to live by and follow.  It is a interesting topic and I am enjoying learning more about Geisha as I research.

Apparently people think of Geisha as something total different than what they do. They preform dancing, singing, and art for people that pay to entertain them. But not just any woman can be a Geisha, they have to go through many years of training and prepare for the live style they must soon adjust to. It is a very interesting and fun topic to learn about. My schedule for this week would to be add more information to each of my annotated bibs. I think with Geisha I need a ton of information which there is always room for more.

Student Prompt: Matine

A book that has made me change my mind is hard to think of. There is many books that make me think differently but not changed my mind. One book that really had an affect on what I thought about would be Kisses From Katie. This book was something different then I had ever read. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. There are many reasons this book changed the way I think. I think it makes me think about a better person I could be.

The reason why I think this book made me think I could be a better person is because the main character, Katie, leaves everything she has behind to save other peoples lives. I thought that was just amazing of a person to do. She had a perfect life but instead of going to college she moved across the world to take care of families who couldn't even go to school. This book made me think about how blessed I am and I can sometimes take that for granted. It made me realize how a could be a better person.
